Teach a Boy to Fish
A Cree story of sturgeon and becoming.
The story
A Cree story of sturgeon and becoming.
Through the voice of Isaac Masty, a first sturgeon-fishing trip on the Nottoway River becomes a memory brought to life.
The film follows young Cree boys fishing for the first time, told through the perspective of the man they grew to be. Youth, memory and tradition shape the journey.
The creative approach
The story is framed as a remembered experience. The adult voice and the boys’ first journey give the film its perspective, inviting the audience into a recollection rather than a step-by-step account of fishing.
